Heart Thoughts: The Third Agreement

May 23, 2026 — As I write this on this beautiful Sunday afternoon, the window beside me is open and the scent of new life is drifting in. The sun is warm, the air is soft, and it finally feels like spring has arrived. What a gift.

With that same sense of renewal and opening, I’d love to invite you to join me this Friday 1-3 p.m. at the Windham Public Library for a program offered through Soaring Eagles Maine. It’s called “Everyone Has a Story: Honoring the Mystery in the Echo of Our Heart.”

This gentle, reflective workshop is rooted in the principles of narrative medicine — the practice of weaving our personal stories into a shared tapestry of human experience. Through simple prompts and heartfelt conversation, we’ll explore how storytelling opens us to empathy, connection, and deeper self‑understanding. No writing experience is needed… just an open heart.

I would truly love to see you there.

And later that evening, at 6:30 p.m., Leigh Ann Morgan will be offering an Akashic Records Meditation. I’m looking forward to seeing who will be in the room with my records; it promises to be a powerful and meaningful experience.

Don’t Make Assumptions: Moving from Story to Truth

This week we continued our journey through The Four Agreements with the Third Agreement: Don’t Make Assumptions. It was a powerful reminder that so much of our suffering comes not from what is, but from the stories we create when we don’t have all the information.

We explored how quickly the mind fills in the blanks, often with fear‑based imagination rather than spiritual clarity. When we assume, we stop listening, we stop asking, and we stop seeing one another as the divine beings we truly are.

Key Insights from Today’s Talk

  • Assumptions are unexamined agreements, old patterns we’ve accepted without realizing it.
  • Curiosity is a spiritual practice, it opens the door to compassion, clarity, and connection.
  • Asking for clarity is an act of love, both for ourselves and for others.
  • Through the Unity lens, we affirm: “I choose clarity over fear‑based imagination.”

We also reflected on how assumptions show up in our relationships, our communication, and even our spiritual communities. When we pause, breathe, and choose curiosity over conclusion, we create space for Truth to reveal itself.

A Practice for the Week

Before reacting, pause and ask:

“What story am I telling myself?”

Then gently shift to: “What else might be true?”

This simple move can transform conversations, soften conflict, and deepen understanding.

If you missed the service, you can watch it here.

May this week be filled with clarity, compassion, and the courage to ask rather than assume.

Coming Up Next Sunday…

Next week we continue our journey through The Four Agreements with the Fourth Agreement: Always Do Your Best — a teaching that reminds us that our “best” is not about perfection, pressure, or performance, but about presence, compassion, and spiritual alignment.

We’ll explore how doing your best changes from moment to moment, how it frees us from self‑judgment, and how it opens the door to grace in our daily lives. It’s a beautiful and uplifting way to complete this series — you won’t want to miss it.

You are a blessing in my life,
Rev. Patricia Bessey
