Staying Grounded in the Year of the Fire Horse —
As we step into 2026, the pace of life is accelerating. In Chinese astrology, this is the Year of the Fire Horse — a time of dynamic energy, bold movement, and rapid change. Fire Horse years are known for their intensity and unpredictability. They invite us to take big leaps, but they can also tempt us into burnout if we’re not mindful.
That’s why staying grounded is essential. When the world speeds up, our spiritual principles become our anchor. Living from a place of awareness, compassion, and integrity allows us to navigate the fiery energy without being consumed by it.
This year, let’s commit to practices that keep us centered: daily prayer, meditation, conscious breathing, and moments of stillness. These simple acts remind us that while the outer world may race ahead, our inner world can remain calm, clear, and connected to the Divine.
The Power of Pause and Notice
One of the most transformative practices you can embrace this year is what we explored in Sunday’s talk: Pause and Notice. In a world that pushes us toward autopilot living, this practice invites us to stop even for a breath and become aware.
Pause: Interrupt the rush. Take one conscious breath.
Notice: What do you feel? What do you see? Where is the Divine showing up in this moment?
Imagine what would change if you lived awake:
You’d savor your morning coffee instead of gulping it down while checking emails.
You’d listen deeply to your loved ones instead of half-hearing while planning your next task.
You’d notice the sacred in the ordinary—the laughter of a child, the rustle of leaves, the beating of your own heart.
Living awake doesn’t make life perfect. It makes life real. It opens your heart to the full spectrum — the joy and the sorrow, the beauty and the mess. And in that openness, transformation happens.
So today, I invite you to wake up. Notice where you’ve been on autopilot. Notice where you’ve been guarding your heart. And then, choose awareness. Choose presence. Choose life.
Start with one “Pause and Notice” moment today. Let it be your way of saying yes to the Divine invitation: “Awake, O sleeper, and rise from the dead.”
Because when you wake up, you don’t just live; you live fully, deeply, and beautifully.
Affirmation for the Week
“I choose to live awake. I savor each moment, listen with an open heart, and welcome life in all its beauty and imperfection. Today, I say yes to presence, yes to awareness, yes to the Divine in every breath.”
Next week, we’ll continue our series Awakening to True Presence with a talk titled The Power of Focus. This is the first pillar of the FACE model introduced by Cory Muscara in his book Stop Missing Your Life. Join us as we explore how focus can transform the way we experience each moment.
As we step into this new season, let’s keep leaning into what makes our community extraordinary: connection, growth, and shared purpose. Whether you’re joining us in person, online, or holding us in prayer, know this: you are a vital part of our journey.
Every conversation, every act of kindness, every moment of spiritual practice adds to the beautiful tapestry we’re weaving together. So, let’s keep showing up with open hearts, curious minds, and the joy of knowing we’re creating something meaningful and lasting.
Here’s to a year of deepening, expanding, and shining our light in ways that truly make a difference.
You are a blessing in my life,
Rev. Patricia Bessey
