Heart Thoughts: The Grateful Heart

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! After the service on Sunday, we had an amazing dinner to celebrate. Big shout out to Scott Mazer for cooking up two delicious turkeys and whipping up the mashed potatoes. Our community really came through with all the sides and desserts. The setup and cleanup were a team effort, with special thanks to the two Nancys — Nancy Burnette and Nancy Sawyer — for leading the charge.

We’re quickly moving into Advent, and this Saturday, we’ll be decorating the sanctuary. If you’ve got a knack for decorating, come join us at 10:00 am! The Advent talk series this year is “The Songs of Christmas.” Be sure to check out the events leading up to and including our Christmas Eve Candlelight service below. Looking forward to celebrating the season with you all!

The message on Sunday was The Magic of a Grateful Heart. Here are some practices that you can begin to carry a grateful heart throughout the entire year.

Integrating Gratitude into Daily Life:

Morning Gratitude Practice
Start your day with a few moments of gratitude. As you wake up, take a moment to reflect on what you are thankful for. It could be the comfort of your bed, the promise of a new day, or the people who bring joy to your life. Allow this sense of gratitude to set a positive tone for the day ahead.

Gratitude Journal
Keep a gratitude journal and make it a habit to write down three things you are grateful for each day. This simple practice can help you focus on the positive aspects of your life and cultivate an ongoing sense of thankfulness.

Expressing Gratitude
Take the time to express your gratitude to others. Whether it’s a heartfelt thank you, a kind note, or a small gesture of appreciation, letting others know that you are thankful can strengthen your relationships and spread positivity.

Mindful Moments
Throughout your day, pause and take a moment to appreciate the beauty around you. Whether it’s a beautiful sunset, a kind word from a colleague, or a moment of laughter, these mindful moments of gratitude can enhance your overall sense of well-being.

The magic of a grateful heart lies in its ability to transform our perspective and enrich our lives. By embracing gratitude, we open ourselves to a deeper sense of joy, peace, and connection. As you carry the practice of gratitude with you, may it illuminate your path and fill your heart with boundless love and appreciation.

Remember, gratitude is a journey, not a destination. Each moment of thankfulness brings us closer to the profound realization of the abundant blessings that surround us. Embrace this journey with an open heart and let the magic of gratitude unfold in every aspect of your life.

We’re just days away from Giving Tuesday on December 3, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. We’ve got some fantastic guests lined up to join us, bringing their energy and holiday cheer throughout the day and into the evening. Our theme for this campaign is Back in the Black and Spread the Warmth. Let’s raise the vibe together and celebrate this wonderful season and take us over the finish line of $20,000 for heat pumps and operating funds.

I’m deeply grateful for each of you taking the time to read this. You truly are special!

You are a blessing in my life,
Rev. Patricia Bessey
