Heart Thoughts: Take a Stand

As we embrace another week, I find myself once again reflecting on the weather. Warm temperatures have arrived, but with the humidity, it’s not always as pleasant as we’d like. Remember to take good care of yourself and stay hydrated during these days.

Now, let’s shift our focus to some exciting upcoming events:

Park and Sell Extravaganza (Saturday):

Date: This Saturday
Time: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
What’s it all about? This event provides a fantastic opportunity for decluttering and earning extra cash. Even if you haven’t reserved a parking space in advance, feel free to join us and pay on the spot. If you’re selling items, bring cash for making change.

Auction Items Bidding (Deadline: Next Sunday, July 14):

If any auction items have caught your attention, make sure to submit your bids by next Sunday. Let’s support each other and create a positive impact within our community.

As you interact with others at your parking space during the Extravaganza, don’t forget to invite them to explore the auction items as well!

Once again, the chapter from The Soul of Money held much for us to take in. It was titled “Take a Stand” and we learned 16 women in a poor southern part of India took a stand to stop killing baby girls. Yes, you read this correctly. To learn more, if you missed the service, you can watch it here.

Taking a stand in our lives involves intentional actions that align with our values and create positive impact. Here are some practical steps:

Clarify Your Values: Reflect on what truly matters to you. Identify your core values, whether they relate to social justice, environmental sustainability, or personal growth.

Educate Yourself: Stay informed about issues that resonate with you. Read books, follow reputable news sources, and engage in conversations to deepen your understanding.

Speak Up: Use your voice to advocate for change. Attend community meetings, write letters to policymakers, and participate in peaceful protests. Social media can also be a platform for sharing your views.

Support Ethical Brands: Make conscious choices when spending money. Support companies that align with your values, whether it’s fair trade, eco-friendly, or socially responsible.

Volunteer: Find local organizations or causes that need your help. Volunteering allows you to contribute directly to positive change and connect with like-minded individuals.

Donate Wisely: If you have financial resources, donate to nonprofits or grassroots initiatives. Research organizations to ensure your money goes where it’s needed most.

Live Sustainably: Reduce your environmental impact by adopting eco-friendly habits. Recycle, conserve energy, and support sustainable practices.

Challenge Injustice: When you witness discrimination, inequality, or harmful behavior, take a stand. Be an ally and support marginalized communities.

Lead by Example: Model the behavior you want to see. Inspire others through your actions, kindness, and empathy.

Persist: Change takes time. Be patient and persistent. Small steps add up to significant impact over time.

Remember, taking a stand doesn’t always require grand gestures — it can start with everyday choices and conversations.

Here is the affirmation from the message:

“I courageously take a stand for what truly matters. My values guide my choices, and I align my actions with integrity. In the face of scarcity, I choose abundance. I am a catalyst for positive change, transforming scarcity into sufficiency. With unwavering commitment, I create a world where everyone thrives.”

Next week’s talk title is “The Power of Conversation.”

Know that you are so very loved and appreciated.

You are a blessing in my life,
Rev. Patricia Bessey
