Heart Thoughts: Rest as a Spiritual Practice

This Week at Unity: Help Is on the Way (and So Is Bistro!).

Every Sunday at Unity Center for Spiritual Growth is an adventure in faith — and this past Sunday was no exception. We were blessed to welcome Julie Thompson and her remarkable companion, Bistro. Julie’s talk, Help Is on the Way, was a heartfelt reminder that divine support often arrives in unexpected forms. Bistro, a soulful pup with a story unlike most rescue tales, brought his own kind of healing presence to our sanctuary. This wasn’t your typical adoption journey — and rather than spoil the surprise, I invite you to hear the full story and witness Bistro’s gentle charisma for yourself.

Community Cookout Joy

Following the service, our Board of Trustees hosted a delightful cookout that brought warmth and laughter to the whole community. Deep gratitude to Betti Lu Lewis for orchestrating the meal and to our grill masters — Scott Mazer, Matt Purinton, and Jeff Nordstrom — for keeping the sizzle going. Thanks also to everyone who contributed sides and desserts. With sunshine overhead and picnic tables full, it was a day of connection, nourishment, and joy. Truly, a good time was had by all.

Looking Ahead: Fall Offerings & Spiritual Invitations

As August winds down, we reflect on a summer rich with growth and connection. And now, fall is arriving with fresh energy and new opportunities. Be sure to check our calendar so you don’t miss a single offering.

First up: our online book group returns with The Four Paws of Spiritual Success, a charming and insightful journey through the eyes of the Dalai Lama’s cat.

Next Sunday’s Talk: The Power of Pause — Rest as a Spiritual Practice.

In a world that often equates worth with busyness, rest can feel radical. But rest is not a retreat — it’s a return. This Sunday, we’ll explore how sacred pauses restore our balance, deepen our spiritual awareness, and open us to divine guidance. Whether it’s a breath between tasks or a full Sabbath retreat, rest invites us to remember that we are already whole. Come ready to exhale, reflect, and reclaim the power of stillness.

So, my dear friends, there are so many beautiful ways for us to gather, grow, and serve together. I hope you’ll join us in whatever way your heart feels called. Let’s keep showing up for each other with love, intention, and joy.

You are a blessing in my life,
Rev. Patricia Bessey
