We were so blessed to help Bill Taylor celebrate his 101st birthday on Sunday. He is a man who exemplifies what it means to be committed to your spiritual community. Since my arrival in August of 2011, he has been an ardent supporter of me and Unity. He was here before I ever arrived. Always when asked what the secret to his longevity is three words: service, gratitude and keep moving. Bill, we continue to celebrate you and this amazing life you continue to thrive in.
A reminder that Friday evening is Open Mic night. Come and enjoy the entertainment or be part of the entertainment. Arrive by 6:00 and you will be added to the lineup. Arrive by 4:00 and help with the setup.
This last Sunday the series It’s Not Your Money drew to its conclusion. I hope that you gained as much from it as I did. Here are some key points from the Being the Abundant Road. One of the main takeaways was dropping the word “my” around money, possessions, health challenges and replacing with “the.”
This week we focused on tithing, which has been a practice for me since I first heard Rev. Edwene Gaines in 1992. I was taught to tithe to where I was being spiritually fed and I have been doing this for 31 years. Charles Fillmore, co-founder of Unity, has this definition of prosperity – “Prosperity is not in the possession of things. It is in the knowledge of free and open access to an inexhaustible storehouse of good.”
Another quote of Mr. Fillmore is: “Hold steadily to the thought of the omnipresence of universal supply, its perfect equilibrium and its swift action in filling every apparent vacuum or place of lack.”
If you have been in the habit of hoarding or of practicing stringent economy, change your thought currents to generosity. Practice giving, even though it may be in a small way. Give in a spirit of love and give when you cannot see any possibility of return.
See yourself as the steward of God handing out His inexhaustible supplies. In this manner, you are setting into action mental and spiritual forces that eventually bring large results into visibility.
Be happy in your giving. God loves a cheerful giver because his mind and heart are open to the flow of the pure substance of Being that balances all things.
Ernest Holmes founder of Science of Mind says: “Whatever I need comes to me from the All Good. Divine Intelligence working through me always knows just what I need and always supplies it when I need it. The Law is unfailing and sure, and cannot be broken. I receive my Good daily as I go along the pathway of Life, and I cannot be robbed of my birthright to freedom and happiness. I receive my Good.”
I leave you with the tools from this week’s message: Observe, pay attention, and most importantly go with the flow.
And lastly from Florence Scovel Shinn, author of The Game of Life and How to Play It: “I now release the goldmine within me. I am linked with an endless golden stream of prosperity that comes to me under grace in perfect ways.”
Next week join me for Our Greatest Freedom: The Freedom to Choose in preparation for July 4th. Rev. Todd Glacy will be our guest musician.
You are a blessing in my life,
Rev. Patricia Bessey
