Another beautiful Sunday at Unity Center for Spiritual Growth!
There’s something extra special about our Potluck and Birthday Sunday — a time to share food, laughter, and love. This month, we’re celebrating many birthdays, and we don’t want to miss yours! If you were born in August, please send me an email so we can be sure to give you a birthday call and have our beloved Betti Lu Lewis serenade you with “Happy Birthday.”
Save the Date: Sunday, August 24
Our Board of Trustees is hosting a Community Cookout following service! They’ll be grilling up hotdogs, hamburgers, and a delicious vegetarian option. Veggies from the garden, condiments, chips, and drinks will be provided — and if you’d like to bring a side dish to share, it would be joyfully welcomed.
As a bonus, we’ll also be joined by the lovely Julie Thompson that day. It promises to be a heartwarming celebration of community, connection, and summer’s final glow. Mark your calendar and come hungry — for food and fellowship!
This past Sunday we started a new talk series called The Inner Guide: Trusting the Voice Within. This week was: The Soul’s Compass: Navigating Life with Spiritual Wisdom. In a world overflowing with opinions, advice, and distractions, it’s easy to lose touch with our inner compass. On Sunday, we explored the transformative power of inner listening — the sacred practice of tuning into the still, small voice of Spirit within.
Through the story of young Samuel and the wisdom of metaphysical teachings, we’re reminded that divine guidance doesn’t shout — it whispers. It nudges us gently, persistently, and lovingly toward truth. We often seek maps and formulas outside ourselves, but true spiritual navigation begins within.
To hear Spirit’s voice, we must create space for stillness. Here are four simple practices to help you tune in:
Practices for Sacred Listening
1. Sacred Stillness. Set aside a few minutes each day to be quiet. Even five minutes of silence can open the channel. “Be still and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
2. Journaling. Write down your questions; then listen. Let Spirit respond through your pen.
3. Body Wisdom. Notice how your body reacts to choices. Peace often signals alignment; tension may signal resistance.
4. Spiritual Companionship. Surround yourself with those who support your inner journey. Like Eli guiding Samuel, others can help us recognize Spirit’s voice.
When we listen inwardly, we don’t just find direction — we become the map. Our clarity becomes a path. Our courage becomes a landmark. Our trust becomes a light for others. Join us as we practice sacred stillness together and affirm: “I listen with an open heart. I trust the voice of Spirit within me. I am guided, I am loved, and I am never alone.”
Next week the talk title is Sacred Detours: When the Path Isn’t Straight. Life doesn’t always unfold the way we plan. Sometimes the road twists, the timing shifts, and the destination feels out of reach. But what if those detours are sacred?
Join us this Sunday as we explore the story of Joseph — from pit to palace — and reflect on how Spirit uses delays, disruptions, and unexpected turns to guide us into deeper purpose. If your journey has felt uncertain lately, this message will remind you: divine timing is never late, and every detour holds a blessing.
Come be inspired, uplifted, and reminded that Spirit is always at work — even when the path isn’t straight.
I’m deeply grateful for each of you taking the time to read this. You truly are special!
You are a blessing in my life,
Rev. Patricia Bessey
