Heart Thoughts: Ernest Wilson

Rev. Dr. Ernest Wilson

As I was thinking about what I would share with you this week, I got a text saying isn’t this around the time you became the full-time minister at Unity Center for Spiritual Growth. I usually think of August 1 as my start date, but that was as temporary minister. It was February 12, 2012, when I signed as the permanent minister.

At our board meeting later this month I will once again sign a new contract. The board and I discussed my contract coming up for renewal and we both determined we would go for another five years.

A short time before LeRoy passed, I asked him if I should go for another five years, and his response was, “Why wouldn’t you?” That was good enough for me then and it is now.

It is an honor to serve this community… even though I feel in the last few months I have been served more than I have served. I love it when it works that way. Which leads into our Unity author that I highlighted last week.

Rev. Dr. Ernest Wilson, a Unity minister, was a contemporary of May Rowland, Elizabeth Sand Turner and Georgiana Tree West. Wilson was best known for his writing and teaching of what he called the Master Class Lessons.

Wilson began every lesson with a statement to meditate on. I am going to provide you with each of these from every lesson. If you missed the service, you can watch it here and learn a lot more about Ernest Wilson.

The Master’s Way of Prayer: God in the midst of me is mighty. He guides and governs the thoughts of my mind, the feelings of my heart, and the acts of my life to establish joy, health, and bounty in my life and my world.

The Master’s Way of Giving: I give as I would receive, richly, freely, joyously, in the Father’s name and spirit.

The Master’s Way of Receiving: All that the Father gives me comes to me, and I receive it in His name, gratefully and joyously.

The Master’s Way of Healing: The healing love of the Christ now fills my being, and I am made every whit whole.

The Master’s Way of Love and Happiness: Christ in me rules my emotions. I love as I would be loved, unselfishly, impersonally, in the spirit of Christ.

The Master’s Way of Overcoming: “God works in me to will and to do whatsoever He wishes me to do, and He cannot fail.”

He ended every class with this:

Close your study with this meditation for whomsoever you especially wish to bless:

You are a radiant center of the Christ light, mighty to attract your good, and to radiate good to others.

Next week the author we will learn about is Frank Whitney, known as Whitty.

You are a blessing in my life,
Rev. Patricia Bessey
