The Gold Stars this week go to our amazing Board of Trustees!
What a wonderful community cookout they provided for all of us. Every table was filled with people eating, talking, laughing, and connecting, which is the very picture of community in action. As someone who lives alone, I know what it is like to sit down to meals in silence, and I also know that many of our folks experience the same thing. To have someone prepare a meal for you and then share conversation and fellowship around the table is a special gift. Thank you to our Board for their generosity and hard work, and thank you to everyone, both board members and community members, who contributed delicious side dishes to complete the feast.
It is always a good day when we leave Unity Center for Spiritual Growth nourished both spiritually and physically.
The spiritual nourishment came through our beloved returning guest musician and speaker, Julie Thompson, along with her friend and musical companion Jim, and of course, her sweet four-legged friend, Bistro.
Julie’s message, “Gotta Serve Somebody,” could not have been more timely. Her words invited us to reflect on the choices we make every day about where we place our attention, energy, and devotion, especially during these challenging times in our nation. Combined with her inspiring music, the service touched hearts and lifted spirits. Julie, thank you for once again being such a blessing to our community.
Julie will be back with us next Sunday to provide music as I continue our series, Expanding the Promise: Women Who Helped America Grow. The remarkable woman we will be exploring is Harriet Tubman.
Harriet Tubman trusted Divine guidance even when she could not see the entire path before her. Step by courageous step, she followed the light within. In doing so, she not only found freedom for herself but became a guide to freedom for countless others. Her life reminds us that faith is not about seeing the whole journey; it is about trusting the next step.
Finally, a gentle reminder about our $15 for 15 Years fundraiser celebrating my fifteenth year as minister of Unity Center for Spiritual Growth. The proceeds from this campaign will help us retire the remaining plowing bill from last winter. Together, we are holding the vision of entering the coming winter season with a clean slate and a strong foundation.
