Heart Thoughts: Amazing Sunday

Energy was high at Unity Center for Spiritual Growth this past weekend. The very first Coffee House and Open Mic was a great success! Thank you to Paula McGinnis and Wayne Smith for organizing and attending to the needs for the evening. This event will happen again July 29, so mark your calendar. Reach out to family and friends that you know to come and perform, or you may be ready for prime time yourself! It is a safe venue to step out and share your music, poetry, storytelling, or comedy.

Following a successful Friday evening, Sunday was truly amazing. We welcomed Sr. Lucy Kurien from Maher Ashram in India. It has been a few years since Sr. Lucy has been with us and she brought touching stories of how Maher was able to meet the needs of migrant workers and other people in the villages that were without work and food during COVID. India went into lockdown on March 24, 2020, and Sr. Lucy went into action! She and her Maher family were able to feed thousands with the help of farmers in the area. Farmers were unable to sell their products, so they donated their crops to Maher, and the folks at Maher worked around the clock, making sure everyone got fed.

It is hard to even fathom what it was like in a country that has such a large population. What was truly amazing is that, although the staff, children, men and women living at Maher worked tirelessly to keep everyone fed, they also made masks … thousands of them, and taught the locals the importance of wearing masks and how to use sanitizer. Sr. Lucy reported there were no cases of COVID within Maher.

The message Sr. Lucy conveyed over and over was the generosity of people and that you can’t out-give God. Whatever was needed, they received, and nobody took advantage of the situation. It is truly a story of love and service. if you missed seeing Sr. Lucy, you can watch the service here.

Oh and I didn’t tell you that we were able to help Maher by giving a check of $1.000. This is solely because of the generosity of our community. So here in Maine, we are helping to support the work of Maher Ashram.

SAVE THE DATE: Ladies, mark your calendar for October 21 and 22 for Living True to You Women’s Retreat. It will be held at Unity Center for Spiritual Growth and will begin on Friday evening with a potluck and fire circle. Then we will return Saturday, for a day-long workshop with Sue Vittner on learning about your human design. Watch for more information coming soon!

This coming Sunday, we will return to the series on the book The Third Coming. The talk is titled: The Great Awakening.

See you then!

You are a blessing in my life.
