Well, welcome August! This is going to be a very important month for us, as much is happening that you will be interested in. Beginning this Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Sahaja Yoga will be offered in person at the church. I participated in the introductory session, and it was a great experience. I plan to be there and hope to see you as well. If there is enough interest, Jane Gagnier and Vamshi Gooje plan to offer it every Tuesday evening. They do not charge for this, so it is a great opportunity to re-center yourself and learn the practice.
For those of you who want a different form of meditation, join Rev Jesse James and Wiley Beveridge on August 9 at 7 p.m. for music and meditation.
The next event is on August 12 at the Sea Dog’s game. Join me as we volunteer to deliver food orders to those in their seats. It is a fundraiser for Sebago Lakes Region Fuller Center, which we are a founding partner. I need seven folks who are available from 5 to 8 p.m. to serve and then stay for the game. Contact me to volunteer.
In the midst of all of this will be our good friend and musician Julie Thompson. She will be with us on August 7 and 21. It is always a delight when Julie comes to town.
Then on August 14t our board chair, Kim Cowperthwaite, will be our guest speaker. She will be sharing about The Holy Chaos of Middle School. Only a teacher can give us a bird’s eye view of what it is like teaching during and going forward with a pandemic.
Now if you haven’t realized that our community is alive and well, we have one more special event that will remind you of the perseverance and love that has kept this community alive for 85 years. On August 28 at our regular time, 10 a.m., we will have a celebration sharing with music and memories. Many from our past and present will be sharing their memories of Unity Center for Spiritual Growth. This will be followed by a light lunch. If you are planning to attend, and have not already told me, please contact us, letting us know how many will be attending from your family.
If you are reading this, and are no longer in the area, please send me a story you would like told. During this month we will post those stories in Heart Thoughts. What a contribution that would be for us to hear.
I think I have given you a lot, so, in place of highlights from the service on Sunday if you missed it you can watch it here.
I will begin a new series on Sunday from the book by my colleague Rev Lauren McLaughlin called Life Doesn’t Have to Be So Hard. Part 1 is Realizing: The ELF Is Right Inside YoursELF.
Have a blessed week and see you soon!
You are a blessing in my life,
Rev. Patricia Bessey
